You may be intrigued by coaching, but not really know exactly what it is.
The main questions people seem to have about coaching are “How is it different from counseling?” and “How does it benefit me?”
Coaching is different from counseling in that counseling tends to look into the past to discover how certain patterns and negative programming may have affected how you’ve lived and functioned up to this point. It often focuses on healing and helping a person to overcome painful experiences. It addresses avenues of reparation and stability. Counseling is very beneficial and it is my belief that everyone should see a counselor/therapist who is a good fit for them at some point in their lives because, let’s face it, none of us come through this life unscathed.
Coaching, while it can also be healing, focuses on where you are now and where you want to be in the future. It is very forward driven. We work together to help you get unstuck and move forward. This can be in your creative life, your personal life, your professional life, or your spiritual life. All of these tend to overlap of course, but in coaching, we focus on what your present needs and future aims are.
We may discuss things related to the past, but we don’t set up camp there. We simply use that information to help move you towards your desires and goals.
The other important aspect of my work with coaching clients is addressing your personal values because once you get clear on what your values are, you will find choices easier to make and behaviors easier to shift.
For example, if you have a deep-seated desire to be a writer, yet you have not written anything in a decade, you may find that creativity is one of your core values. You may be experiencing feelings of frustration and a sense of unfulfillment because you aren’t aligning with one of your core values.
Once you get clear about this, it becomes much easier to move in the direction of your passion and what you really want.
So what can you expect from coaching with me?
- Compassionate and intuitive listening
- Gentle nudges
- Prayer (if desired)
- A wide range of life experiences
- My full attention on you for each session
- Support to stay true to who you are
I am not here to give you advice. I am here to help you uncover the answers you already have within you. I facilitate a monologue. I ask you questions and let you think out loud, and as you uncover what you’re wanting to work towards, we put a strategy in place to get you there. It doesn’t have to be anything complicated.
If you are feeling frustrated in your work, or relationships, or creativity, or life purpose, I will help you get clear on what you really want and together, we put actions and goals in place to help you get there.
As you do the work, you will start to feel lighter, more focused and more inspired, not to mention you’ll feel a deep sense of fulfillment and joy as you become truer to yourself and to the things you feel called to become.
So why do I coach?
I coach because I believe that you have the potential to live a much more fulfilling and balanced life than you may currently be doing. I coach because I love to see the way people light up when they are living in line with who they truly are, when they are affirmed and when they do what they set out to do.
Most of all, I coach because of the way people look and sound when they feel heard, listened to and appreciated.
